Lib Dems look set to run Gloucester City Council after beating Conservatives

The Liberal Democrats have become the largest party on Gloucester City Council and look set to lead the authority.

They won 17 of the 39 seats the council, with the Conservatives on 11 seats, Labour on seven and the Independents on four.

The Liberal Democrats gained seats in Longlevens, Westgate, Tuffley, Quedgeley Severn Vale and Barton & Tredworth to be the largest party.

The Conservatives had run the council for 20 years and lost 10 seats in the local elections.

The Liberal Democrats had gone into the election campaign promising to improve core services, support the local economy, deliver more affordable housing and make Gloucester carbon neutral by 2030.
